Wirnet™ iFemtocell-evolution installation recommendations

Installation of a LoRaWAN gateway shall be carefully prepared in advance to anticipate the future coverage area, QoS and make sure that all needed equipment’s are listed and are available the D-day but also to be sure that the installation is conformed to the Kerlink recommendations : Gateways installation recommendations.

WARNING: LoRa signal output power on Wirnet iFemtoCell-evolution

  • The Wirnet iFemtoCell-evolution conducted output power must be adjusted from 0dBm to +24dBm.
  • To avoid shortening the life of the equipment, output conducted power must be strictly limited to 24dBm (out of the SMA/RP-SMA connector) corresponding to a 27dBm EIRP output power (with the 3dBi antenna gain).
  • Customer is responsible for ensuring the correct management of power output by a third party Lora Network Server (LNS) or custom applications.
  • This design constraint is induced by the LoRa radio and the embedded LTE telecom modem cohabitation.

Maximum LoRa signal output power is limited to 24dBm in the calibration file /tmp/calib_rf.json.
The Kerlink Common Packet Forwarder (CPF) and Kerlink Wanesy Management Center respect this constraint.

The installation procedure is described in the quickstart guide delivered with your gateway (also available in the setup page). This procedure must be read, the integrity of the gateway, its warranty and its efficiency depend on it.

In order to optimize gateway performances and protection, please refer to application notes in documentation section of resources.

Here are the key factors of a good installation (it does not prevent you from reading the “LoRaWAN gateways installation recommendations” application note), plus a few additional recommendations:

  • Gateway must be mounted on any concrete pedestal, concrete wall or any non-flammable surface (UL94-V0).
  • The LTE/HSPA/GPRS connection requires a USIM subscription.
  • Before inserting the USIM card, pay attention that the Wirnet iFemtoCell-Evolution is unpowered by checking that all LEDs are OFF.
  • Recommended shielding Ethernet cable is category 6A, STP or SSTP.
  • Before any product installation, a full spectrum analysis should be done on the field with a spectrum analyzer. A backup of each measurement is strongly recommended in case further analysis is required.
  • Photos of the full installation are also recommended to memorize antennas co-locations and check if the installation is properly done.
  • The wirnet iFemtoCell-evolution conducted output power must be adjusted from 0dBm to +24dBm.
